Of office politcs and friends

September 23, 2009

The past two weeks has really been crappy for me. I have had some personal problems that I had to deal with. On top of that, I just found out that one of my agents was talking behind my back and complained about me to our Immediate Superior. This got me so pissed because her accusations were based on half truths and I was not even there to defend myself.

The usual me would have loved to confront her but on second thought, I decided that she is not worth my time. I just felt bad that my Manager made some decisions regarding me without consulting me first. We already talked about it and he told me that he thought he was just helping me out. That would have been great but there were rumors circulating around the office about me that just wouldn’t rest.

I have been a Supervisor for almost 3 years of my 4 year plus tenure in the office and I have encountered a lot of difficult employees in the past. I never thought the day will come that an agent of mine would talk against me and rallied her team mates behind her. I was able to talk to some of the other agents and they assured me that her opinion doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the team opinion as well.

I also found out that apparently, one of the Immediate Superiors was gung-ho on having me included in the intervention. I must have done something bad to fall out of his good graces. Oh well, that’s life.

In my trying times right now, I am indeed very grateful for friends who always seem to know that my spirit needs lifting up. Words can’t express my thanks to Jing,  who has been one of my bestfriends since college. To Lea and Apol, who are always my constant companions and to Vivien, who’s like a long lost sister to me.

What would have life been without these people? Over the years, I’ve made a lot of friends and enemies alike but there were a very few that I consider really close. Some of them, I might have not kept in touch with and I am so happy that one of my bestfriends in grade school, Rebecca,  is now my friend in facebook. She migrated to the States when we were in college and we lost track of each other about two years ago. One bestfriend, Lalyn,  is also based in the States. Zen just arrived from the States with my inaanak Zean and though we might not see each other often, I know she’s always there for me. Likewise, she knows I will always be there for her as well. How can I forget Klang2x   who was with me when I gave birth to my 2 kids? I miss her though like the way I missed Sheila Bones  who just lives 4-5 hours away from CDO or Yara who is now based in Manila with her family.

It’s always nice to know that friends from Facebook and Friendster are always taking the time to send me comments and messages to let me know that they are with me.

Pride and Joy

My kids spent their week-end in the hospital. Friday night, Dylan was vomiting 3 times and had a 40.6 fever. Prior to that, Dion was already complaining of stomach ache and her fever was off-on for about a week already. I did not take the chance and had them admitted at CUMC. The doctor’s finding was Systematic Viral Infection or stomach bug. He thinks it has something to do with contaminated water that they might have consumed while taking a bath.

I have had the same pediatrician, Dr. Roque Patriana, for 8 years and I have always loved the way he takes cares of kids. With the only exception of the time he was vacationing in Italy and Dion has to be admitted in the hospital for tonsillitis, I never took the kids to other doctors. He is very compassionate and he would answer all my questions regarding my kids and their sickness with endless patience. I could honestly say that I trust him with my kids’ safety.

The kids were admitted Saturday morning and were discharged Monday afternoon. Their bill would have amounted to P28, 000 plus but thanks to Philhealth and our company’s medical insurance provider; I did not even pay a single peso. The medical insurance our company provided is the best thing our office has given to their employees.

As soon as they were discharged from the hospital, the kids begged their dad to allow them to join the birthday party of their cousin. We were hesitant to let them join since they just got discharged but they pleaded and cajoled til we reluctantly cave in with strict instructions that they only eat what we put in their plate and no drinking of soft drinks. Big mistake! The day after, Dion wasn’t able to got o school since she developed rashes.

Her dad and I have always wondered how such a beautiful baby like her could be so sickly. We are consistently monitoring her and we always fret that she might have a hard time adjusting to school and other kids. She is so different from her Kaka Dylan, who is well liked by his teachers and classmates alike.

If her Kaka is our Pride, Dion has always been our Joy.
